I have been on pocketgpsworld.com to try and download the speedcamera locations and other points of interest onto my new 256mb memory card for my tom tom 300 but I have a problem:
I have followed the PoiEdit install instructions and now want to install the POI database (speed camera locations plus a couple of other things) But when I click on a Poi then +PDA I recieve an error message saying Remote API library not found, make sure you have ActiveSync installed.
Anybody know were i've gone wrong?
In my PoiEdit window I also have a push pin icon NOT a tomtom hand. One thing is that I did'nt connect my tom tom while I installed PoiEdit, should I have done?
I have just noticed if I click on the +local icon instead of the +PDA it will let me place that particular file in a folder on my pc, can't I just place it in the great britain folder on my desktop for my tomtom then copy my maps to my new SD card?
Or is it not as simple as that? bet it's not
Cheers,
Pete.

are you using tomtom go 300 or running tomtom on a pda?
for either you just unzip the camera database then open the ov2 bmp folder and copy all the files inside onto the tomtom mem card into the gb map folder0 -
Hi drahcir,
I'm using the Tom Tom go 300, But when I follow the link:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php
It sends me straight to the subscription page, do you have to pay for this service now? It's only £2 for a month but I know one or two people who have got it for free on this site recently. I just wondered if I was doing it right or indeed if they have started charging for this facility?
Thanks,

They have started charging for this, caused some bad feelings as people voluntarily passed on the data to compile the database (see their forum - thou they seem to be censoring some of the comments) and now its seen as a way to make money - so what's new? That's life i guess.0

There is no such thing as a free lunch. There are costs associated with running a web site. Or try sticking to the speed limit.0

Do you know if you can get other POI's when you subscribe or is it purely for the speed camera sites? Also it says for the subscripion fee of £2 for a month you get 1 speed camera download does this mean the whole range of cameras or just say every 30mph speed camera in the country?
Excil,
I DONT SPEED!!!
But, ther are times when you travel along a rd and are not sure of the speed limit and in any case even if I'm doing 60 on a 60 rd I slow down to 55 when I see a camera. I'd just like a little pre-warning about when one is coming up.

The PocketGPSWorld "Safety" Camera POI files are purely that - the locations, types and speed limits of all Great British speed cameras. Their final free one is dated 26 January 2006, but obviously that will get more and more out-of-date as time passes, so making the £2 a month, £19 a year, subscription to the speed camera POIs worth the money if you travel a lot. Heavens - you spend more than that filling up your car with petrol, on one occasion!
I'm sure that there are lots of Tom-Tom POI websites (remember, Google is your friend!), but unfortunately I have a Garmin StreetPilot i3, and the POI file format is different from a Tom-Tom...

You can always convert from one format to another using something like POI edit. That is not a difficult thing to do.John_Gray wrote:The PocketGPSWorld "Safety" Camera POI files are purely that - the locations, types and speed limits of all Great British speed cameras. @Pete.g

Thank you all for your help on this one i'm now sorted thanks. A friend of mine has sent me feb's database and i've installed it. (so thanks for the offer drahcir but it's no longer required)
I also persivered with POIedit and worked it out and now have loads of points of interest on the tom tom from petrol stations to travel lodges to pizza huts. And i've also got a load of celeb voices.
