Estimated bill due to faulty meter

Moved from EDF to Scottish Power on the 8 January 2009.

We realised a week ago that are meter readings had not moved.

We've just had a new meter fitted and are back down to zero.

But have recieved a bill (estimiated) for £218 for the 84 days between Jan 8th and April 1st

1280 units Day
1047 unit Night

On are previous metered bill, before the meter broke we where on 700 unit day and 1160 units at night for 77 days. A massive difference on the day units.

Can I argue this with Scottish Power tommorrow and maybe see a reduction.

Also theres a £14 standing charge does anybody know where thats come from?

    1) I think you could argue for a reduction if the previous metered bill was for the same quarter last year and used actual readings.

    2) The standing charge is probably because you pay the same price for all your day units (rather than, for example, 15p for the first 225kwh and 10p for the remainder). You have a standing charge tariff rather than a two tier no standing charge tariff.
