Wedding Insurance question..bit of a sticky one??

Hi,
We have 6 weeks to go until our wedding. Our reception venue has a minimum requirement of 45 guests. We thought this would be fine, and invited adequate numbers. However, a member of the family has since been diagnosed with cancer, and there have been huge fall-outs etc due to stress and a number of other reasons.
As a result, we will only now have approx 30 for our main meal. We will now obviously need to find a smaller venue as we cannot pay £750 for guests who will not attend/eat (£50 per head x 15 guests not coming)
Our venue state in the contract, which we signed, that if a cancellation occurs within 12 weeks of the wedding, 75% of the fee is due.
My question is, as this situation was unavoidable, will our Wedding insurance company cover this payout?
We simply cannot afford to pay 75% to a venue we will not use, on top of new venue charges!
Please help..........

No they do not cover fall outs, cancelling due to a medical problem to a key member of the family might be covered. It would depend on who the policy is with etc.
Who are you insured with?0 -
Thanks,
I dont know??? There is more than just one reason for our shortfall in guests, some simply cannot make it for work or other reasons. We have explained to some of our evening guests that they can now come in the day if they wish but most can't at short notice.
I think its bad of the venue to state 12 weeks, as normally invites dont even go out until this point? How do we know if we can meet capacity until
we get our RSVPs? (more a thought than a question!)
I am hoping that it can be classed as 'unforeseen circumstances' but we cant really move forward without knowing what to do? we dont want to put a claim in, if it will just be rejected as it will be far too time consuming, and we will need the time to make other arrangements.

Looks like Primary are selling this policy - http://www.weddingplaninsurance.co.uk/?agent_id=213
Do you recall the level of cover you have?
Page 5 of the policy document here - http://www.primarytravelinsurance.co.uk/goto/weddingplan_2009/documents/13022009115215Weddingplan_Insurance_Policy_Booklet.pdf indicates there is cover for cancellation and rearrangement being the result of illness of a close relation. Close relation is defined in page 4. *
Cover is up to the level selected when you took the policy out.
Includes mums / dads / step parents / daughters / sons and grandparents. Does not include aunts and uncles which I believe is the norm.0
