I've just looked at the Privilege site, and you must agree to this before you pay for the policy:We will securely store your payment details so that we may automatically renew your policy for subsequent years. Each year we will write to you before we take your payment to remind you that this is happening.0

I always make sure I tick the correct boxes so insurance companies and such like do not hold any card details of mine, nor are they allowed to share my details with other companies.
The tick box is just for marketing. It does not stop them from holding your card details.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. I did not receive any renewal quote or letter suggesting they were automatically renewing my insurance. The renewal is definately not detailed in my insurance documents from last year.
I have already organised my insurance for the year with another company.
I surely can't be the only person this has happened to??
Ticking boxes does not apply here, as others have said that applies to marketing preferences and the such like.
You have entered into a CPA (Continuos Payment Authority) which would have been explained in your insurance docs and your renewal which you would have received. It entitles the company to continue to take payments until you personally cancel it verbally or in writing. The bank/card company are obliged to make this payment to them. Even if you cancel your card the payment can still be taken until YOU cancel it with the insurance company.0
