Turning down a job offer?

You then twist it into some "daily mail" type retort and slam the help you have been given.
Don't be worried if you don't get helpful advice next time, even if its not what you want to hear.
As I said above, I think we need more information before we can make a judgement about the OP. The usual 'daily mail rant' doesn't work here because the OP makes it clear he/she is making some effort to train for a particualar career, but most of the "scroungers" do not make such efforts. Therefore, I suggested that the OP work out how serious this training is and how likely it is that it will lead to a job - if it's going to open a door in a couple of months it would be foolish and irresponsible to take the job now, especially since it's the civil service and therefore taxpayers' money would have to be used to train two people for the job. If, on the other hand, the other job is still a year off or isn't certain, then the OP should take the CS job and come off benefits. However, this need not always be the first reaction to the question of 'should I take the job or not?', and therefore your automatic criticism is unnecessary and unfounded.0 -

The response was to a post BY the op accusing people here of having some sort of "daily mail" response so I am not sure what you mean by this?Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0 -

I meant that the people who jumped in to criticise the OP straight away did provide the usual "Daily Mail" response of 'benefit-claimants are all scroungers and all scroungers should be shot' or something along those lines. I therefore agreed with the OP's complaint of other posters, and said that I would reserve my judgement until I knew more about the nature of the career the OP is training for.0 -
I think that you should take the job-what are you 'self training' for? I have to say though, you said that you have been turned down for jobs because they didn't think you would stick around for long. They weren't wrong then? You are quite lucky to of been offered the job so take it and then do self training in your spare time.Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!

I was on JSA and if I turned down a job offer, I would seriously regret it. I am in not the best jobs in the world (work in a supermarket) and haven't bothered to look at anything since because the location is excellent and lovely colleagues.
Though I have seen a slight reduction in pay. It's not that much as my weekly hourly contract is 39 hours per week, other places I worked at were 35 hours per week.
I even extended my working radius, from 15 miles to 25 miles. Then on the off chance, I just went onto my employer's website and found a job and applied for it. Got the interview and job."The reason we're successful, darling? My overall charisma, of course." -- Freddie Mercury

I would love a job in the CS!
I am going to be out of work in around 3-5 months time, not through redundancy, and not because I want to leave. But because my husband is in the armed forces and we ar egoing to be posted away from my place of work.
I love my job, and would be able to continue doing something similiar and be able to internally transfer if I was in the CS. I work with Civil Service, I am graded as a Civil Servant and earn the banded wage. Unfortunately I just dont know how to go about getting classed as being a Civil Servant.
My advice for OP would be to take the job.0 -
I agree with everyone else here, take the job! Why on earth choose not to take a job in this ecomonic climate, a job is a job for goodness sake, just because it's not ideal or the hours are not ideal, doesn't make it a reason not to take it! The longer you don't take work, the worse you CV will look in my opinion.
