Does anyone know if you are able to reject a job offer whilst on JSA? I know this might seem like a strange thing to consider doing in this financial climate, but I have a job offer for the Civil Service which I don't want (I applied as there was little else available). I am actually self-training myself for different career and the CS job would be just a `filler'. However, taking the job means a training course of many weeks and it is also awkward to get to via public transport. I have heard quite a few bad things about this particular job even from the staff at the Jobcentre!!!
I have told the Jobcentre I have had this job offer and it is on my file but wonder whether, if I rejected it, would they then stop my JSA?
Hopeful thanks in advance,
Vicky
It's called Jobseekers Allowance: if you aren't actively seeking and available for work you are fraudulently claiming. You have had a year of support from the taxpayer, now is the time to start giving something back.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
OP, go for the interview and your best, you may not even get it as there could be other applicants who are more suitable, your tried the supermarkets for example aldi, lidl0

ill take the job, ill even move, theres !!!! all jobs going in the deepest and darkest south west.
shame on you op0 -
Many thanks to those of you who gave helpful advice, much appreciated. I probably will take the job as they have done the CRB check and references etc and are waiting to give me a start date.
I hate to disappoint all you Daily Mail readers who think I'm work shy, but for the past year whilst on Jobseekers I have been turned down for many jobs because of over-experience or the employer thought I wouldn't stay in the job very long. This current job offer from the Civil Service will be just a filler until I move into my proper career. I'm not surprised at the snide remarks from some. It isn't so hard to get a job even in this climate if you have the right attitude regardless of experience. Some of you should try taking a hard look at yourselves.0 -

Sorry but that just made me laugh out loud, correct me if I am wrong but haven't you just spent a whole year on JSA??Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0 -

The answer depends on this alternative option. How likely is it you'll be able to get a job in the new career, and how long is it likely to be before it happens? If it's still a 'maybe' or several months off, yes you should take the new job. If you're likely to walk into something in a few months when you've taken an exam, then wait and let someone else have the CS job. It's more complex than a simple yes-or-no thing.0 -
Probably take the job!
Why on earth would you not accept a job offer if you've been unemployed for almost a year?
You've obviously taken the time and effort to apply for it and then be interviewed for it!
I and a lot of other people here just can't understand that kind of attitude, take the job and earn a regular wage, if you want a different career then that's fine you can always change jobs when the opportunity arises, most people would be grateful to be given the chance to be earning a regular income again.
After a year on JSA I'd bite their hand off to take it if it were me.0 -
I live in the South and there is work down here. I got made redundant in August and took a "grotty-ish" job for a few months just for the work and money and it's easier to find work when you are in work.
You need to be flexible and not too fussy and look around again whilst you are in the job.
Good luck,Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free
Mortgage free since 20140 -

You have been on the dole for a year.
You get offered a job.
You are given good advice on here by good regular helpful people.
You then twist it into some "daily mail" type retort and slam the help you have been given.
Don't be worried if you don't get helpful advice next time, even if its not what you want to hear.
Shame on you.
