Our local council have just started isuing free bio-degradable dog poo bags, which I think is a move in the right direction.0

I live by a canal and am amazed at the number of poo bags we get floating along in the water... Why
If someone is going to lob something that will biodegrade into the canal, then why put it in a brightly coloured non-biodegradable plastic bag first? I have never understood that. There are sometimes dozens of bags fetched up against the lock gates if they haven't been opened for a while. There are poo bins all along the towpath (though they don't appear to be emptied as often as they should be), why not use them or, if folk insist on letting nature take its course, then don't hinder it with plastic. My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

We have a lovely piece of woodland near us where I take my dog, the other day someone had left a plastic bag of poo on one of the picnic tables, there is a rubbish bin about 50 yards away, so they could have easily put it in there.
ps I always clean up after my dog.0 -
How would you feel if someone put the bag of poo in your wheelie bin? I live in a semi rural area and my dustbin is on private ground, but accesable to people walking past. Rather than taking it home, or walking a few more yards to designated bins, they put their bags of poo in my bin. Since the bins are only emptied every two weeks, the bin stinks in summer. I have put a polite notice on the lid, but they take no notice. I am thinking of putting some kind of man trap in there. GRR.....0

I would be delighted - some idiot keeps leaving their dogs great steaming heaps by my gate, which I have stepped in whilst in a rush to get out - if they would just bag in and cob it in my bin instead I would be very pleased! :T0 -

I'd be happy too, it's in a bag what harm is it doing, it's not always easy to find a bin if they have been vandalised, or there just isn't one.
I usually put mine dog bag in the communal bins which are outside and luckily emptied every few days, i can see your point, but I'd rather it was binned, instead of left on the ground for people to walk in. But i wouldn't walk into anyone's garden to pop my poop bag in tho, i would carry it until i saw a public bin, better still a designated dog poop bin, not many around but i will use them. I've even taken them back to the OH home if i was over there and popped them in his bin.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

Domestic wheelie waste bins are owned by the local council. They are provided to householders to place their waste in for free collection. Therefore nothing can be done about people placing domestic waste in your bin.
You could always get a lock for it (but remember to leave it unlocked on day of collection!!)0 -
on our local walk in fields at the back of house, there was a normal litter bin, that was always used for poo more than anything. When it broke it didnt get replaced,we all badgered the council to put a poo bin there instead, but they said they only put them where there are children playing or national country parks, etc, not on a cul de sac road that leads to wild fields. We argued that there is a footpath through there and that the council has put up 3 signs saying to bin your doggy doo,but supply no bin!.we got one within 3 weeks.
As for hanging it on trees/fences..we do it too,the bin is at beginning of walk,we are normally way past it when my boys decide to poo,so we hang it then pick it up on way back..always.TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -

I think that is awful. It encourages other people to not clear up after their dog, it could land you with a littering fine and it makes the countryside look awful. If your dog goes to toilet then you need to pick it up straight away and carry with you till you find a bin. There are no excuses or coming back for it.0 -
if you are in an urban area then take it home or bin it
If you are in the countryside either leave it to wash away or if your dog has done the dirty deed on a path then just get a stick and flick it into the verge or hedgerow. It's not difficult!
Olias
Can't say it any better than that, agree totally. Bags just aren't needed where I walk my springer - as olias says I'm usually wading through other kinds of poo anyway
I've seen lots of people bagging poo and leaving it for collection on their return walk ( I mean I've seen ppl pickin up random bags who then feel the need to explain it was 'their' poo :rotfl:) and I don't really feel that strongly about it as long as it's not forgotten!
Must finish by saying that my mind must work in a very odd way as I must confess that when I first read the title of this thread I thought 'God I know this is a money saving forum but even so, ornaments made out of poo!! Ugh!!'
