Barclays Cash ISA

Taking Martin's advice I went into Barclays today to deposit £3600 in a cash ISA.
Can anyone tell me why I was asked the value of my house and the amount of mortgage outstanding when I was sitting there with my cheque for the full amount in my hand?
If I had been asking for a loan I could have understood it.
I refused to give any more personal information and walked out. The assistant had described the ISA as 'loss leader'. I wonder how quickly the interest rate will drop.

Obviously, they were wanting you to take a mortgage out with them and sell you other things too. Bizarre really when you think about it with the govenment saying that banks are't lending etc.Taking Martin's advice I went into Barclays today to deposit £3600 in a cash ISA.

It was probably because the assistant will have to sell products so that her sales "stats" (statistics) are at a certain level. I'm so glad that I'm retired and out of the rat race." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I went into Barclays to open a regular savings account this week - just gave over my identification and it was opened with no attempt to sell me anything else! Perhaps I was just lucky, I did have to wait a while but it was worth it to get a 6% return. Not Rachmaninov
