Barclays Cash ISA

Options
Taking Martin's advice I went into Barclays today to deposit £3600 in a cash ISA.
Can anyone tell me why I was asked the value of my house and the amount of mortgage outstanding when I was sitting there with my cheque for the full amount in my hand?
If I had been asking for a loan I could have understood it.
I refused to give any more personal information and walked out. The assistant had described the ISA as 'loss leader'. I wonder how quickly the interest rate will drop.

Obviously, they were wanting you to take a mortgage out with them and sell you other things too. Bizarre really when you think about it with the govenment saying that banks are't lending etc.

It was probably because the assistant will have to sell products so that her sales "stats" (statistics) are at a certain level. I'm so glad that I'm retired and out of the rat race.

I went into Barclays to open a regular savings account this week - just gave over my identification and it was opened with no attempt to sell me anything else! Perhaps I was just lucky, I did have to wait a while but it was worth it to get a 6% return.
