Help & advice needed! insurance claim problems!

Hi,
To anyone who could advise me one this one, here goes!
I've just bought a new car, and when i rung the insurance company (Admiral, starting a new policy) i went through the usual routine, and told them i hadn't had accidents in the last 3 years, to which they told me i had!
Obviously baffled, i queried this further and was told i had had an accident in Nov 2006, and was given the registration number of the vehicle in question. Which was a company van of a former employer.
So, having thought long and hard about it, the i remember the incident to be this: I was a named driver on a company van for business use. One day while on a business errand i stopped at a shop. I parked in a marked parking space outside the shop, and having bought what i required i stood outside to have a cig. While doing so, a car pulled into the space in front of mine and clipped my front wing. The other driver was at fault, but the damage was negligable. However, as the vehicle was leased the leasing company asked us to claim through the insurance and get the vehicle seen to properly to avoid any arguments later on.
What i can't possible understand then, is how this is classed as a claim on my records? To reiterate, it was a company van, insured by the company, i wasn't in the vehcle at the time, the accident was caused by a third party and the claim was made on their insurance.
This has now put the price of my policy up, and more worryingly has probably meant that technicaly i have been driving around un-insured for the last three years for giving 'false' information!!
I have been told the only way to get this removed is by contacting the insurers, however the policy was done through a broker, who don't seem to be able to give me much information, i have no contact with my previous employer (after taking them to court over another matter), trading standards say speak to the FSA (insurance ombudsman), and the FSA say they can't do anything without the details of the insurers, and even then because the policy wasn't in my name thay might not be able to do anything!
Surely this can't be right?! Sorry this is so long winded, but have no idea what route to take to resolve this and would appreciate any advice offered.
