Seriously dodgy PPI Reclaim selling tactics

I've had quite a few phonecalls over the last few weeks, from companies trying to "help me reclaim my PPI"... as someone who's never taken up PPI and is signed up with TPS, I find this more than a little annoying. But this morning's phonecall takes the biscuit!

Anon: Hi, could I speak to Mrs Lady please?
Badger: That's me.
Anon: Hello, this is the Financial Fraud Investigation unit, and I'm calling to tell you that while you were living at [previous address], you were missold some payment protection insurance...
Badger: No I wasn't, I've never had PPI!

Hi hun
Its so annoying isn't it ?
Your right not to trust them and as you know you can do this yourself on here by using templates all free etc.
Do not pay anyone to do this, as you know.;)
Have you registered with TPS, to try to prevent these sales calls, its not guaranteed as we have been registered for a few years and still get these type of calls, and worse if its with-held, because there is no tel number to report...
.
It may help a litte though.

Oops you are signed in with TPS, I understand how you feel here, still receiving these calls and with already being registered to stop these sales calls. (sorry I mis read your post earlier and hope those calls stop). XThe one and only "Dizzy Di"

Hi Badger Lady
That is so wrong how dare they:mad:
Do you have any futher information that would identify this company, or if you know their telephone No so that we can put a warning up here. I see you have registered with TPS if you have their No or know who there are you can report them.

I had a claims company call me on three occasions (I am TPS as well). I didnt let on that I was an IFA and on each of three occasions they told me I was mis-sold for contracting out of SERPs. The question basically was, "was I or had I ever been contracted out of SERPS". I answered yes and was told I had been mis-sold and was entitled to around £15,000 compensation. They wanted me to pay £500 up front and around 15% of any redress.
No details were asked about my pension or the reasons why I contracted out. I was just told I was mis-sold. As it happens, I used to be contracted out via an occupational scheme where there was no choice so it would never be upheld. Plus, I am under the age of 45 (both now and when I was contracted out) and that wouldnt be a mis-sale as its only over 45s at the point of contracting out where there is an issue (my age wasnt asked by the claims company either). There was no mention of the fact the FSA did a review and found only around 1.5% of cases were mis-sold. There was also no mention of the FSA booklet which tells you how to work out if you were mis-sold (simple flow chart).
You see frequent posts like that in the pensions section and many endowment complaints were put in the same way as well.
Some of these claims companies are an absolute disgrace.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I only wish I did have more information to report them - I assume that's why he hung up so sharply

These people really shouldn't be getting away with this kind of behaviour - Dunston, your story illustrates it perfectly! Next time I'll see if I can string it out a bit...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
You can always check these companies out at the Ministry of Justice to see if they are in fact regualted. Just ask them for a claims management number.
http://www.claimsregulation.gov.uk/search.aspx
If they are regulated you can then make a complaint about them "cold calling" if they are not following rules. Info here

New Anonymous Reporting HotlineA new Claims Management Anonymous Reporting Hotline is now available. This telephone line has specifically been set up to allow businesses, consumers, individuals or other party’s to report details of alleged malpractice, fraudulent activity, rule breaches or poor service in confidence and anonymously.
The number for this new line is 0333 200 0110. You will not be able to obtain advice, or request feedback via this number. You can still use the main number to the Monitoring and Compliance Unit to complain or report such instances, in confidence, where you wish to be contacted further in respect to your call.

There are lots of rules here about "introducers" of claims companies etc. A good bit of info.
Hope it Helps....0
