LOL. I don't think I've used my alarm clock once since I retired a couple of years ago. I just sleep for as long as my body needs it, and let the sunshine streaming through the curtains and the glorious birdsong, slowly and gently introduce me to a new day. Pure bliss
Dave.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -
I feel very aggrieved that I only get about 6.5 hours sleep a night. I still set my alarm on the clock radio so that I get the weather forecast, so I know what to wear for the day ahead. Problem is, I'm always awake before the alarm goes off.0

in my husband's case it was when he cut up all his ties because he didn't need to wear them for teaching any more.
In my case it was when I began to look forward to receiving my bus pass (January!).(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
The dawn chorus now wakes me - far too early!0

I like getting up at my normal time as if I was going to work, getting a cup of tea then going back to bed! Happy Days! When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0

I use my phone set to a lovely tinkly sound as an alarm as I can't stand the sound of an alarm clock now. BTW, I don't plan to use it very often if I can help it!" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Ah, so you're all not roped in to look after grandkids then? (Had to be up at 7am today for impending invasion.):hello:0

How lovely to discover you all. Your thoughts and comments are so like mine. I worked more or less non stop since I was 17 and was up at 6am each weekday to feed the cat, make tea, get my old man out of bed, make his sandwiches etc. Then we both left for work.
I had only just retired when my husband died. Now I have only myself to consider, I too can go to bed when I please, or stay up and watch a film. I have invested in a super soft bed and fluffy bedding and I can't bear to get out of it in the morning.....so I wait till I am forced to by the call of nature. Oh Yes, retirement is to be recommended. The beauty of it all, it costs nothing to be so lazy, so sleep late, read a book in the sunshine - but then you all know what I mean. Long may it continue.:Dmember # 12 of Skaters Club

Hi Hey Ho Silver Persons,
I'm 5?
Why am I filled with a longing for my retirement day?
I want this thread to go on, and on, and on, and on, and....... still have space for me one day.
Happy days to all.0 -
You just can't win?
All the times I thought it would be great to lie in but: -
Having to go to work got in the way 5 and often six days per week.
Then the kids made sure we didn't.
Then self employed and put in too many hours and too stressed to lay in.
Now retired and still waking up every day, without fail, at the usual time, then getting breakfast at the usual time, then getting ready at the usual time. I must have been well and truly programmed after 40 years of work but is was nice, as someone else has said, to cut up all, but one, of my ties.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0
