Hope someone can help me, My landline is with Virgin media, my mobile is vodaphone PAYG (have no idea of ppm), my dd lives in Dublin and I phone her on her Irish network mobile (she has no landline).
I have just worked out on my Virgin bill I am paying 38ppm to speak to her, I have had a look at the phoneprice checker thingy and it seems discount dial gives me the best rate caling landline to her mobile, but is it cheaper to use my mobile?
I am confused!

You could use http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php via their 0808 freephone number from your VM landline and pay 4p connection and 11p a minute.
Beware of calling 0844/0871 access numbers from VM they charge a premium to call them.
If you have inclusive geographical minutes on VM you could http://www.localphone.com/call/ireland 11.7p but no connection charges etc.0 -

This one is also pretty much the same (uses Vodafone's network)

You should be able to port your number to them as well.0 -
You don't say which mobile network she's connected to - however if you BOTH use SIMs from '3', you'll only be charges the same as a home network call - and remains the cheapest way to contact the RoI if you discount the likes of Skype.0

She would need a 3UK SIM in RoI and be roaming on 3 Ireland when when you call her I think, then yes your minutes would come out of your tariff and she would pay nothing to receive the calls.0 -
I think she is on O2 but will check with her.0

Send her a 3 UK PAYG Sim card, and get yourself one (contract or mobile), make sure she checks that the phone is roaming on 3 Ireland (she should be able to manually select this).
She could also get a 3 Ireland Skype phone http://www.three.ie/handsets_new/prepay-mobiles-skype.htm you could then call her on Skype from your 3 UK Skype phone or from a PC.0 -
The cheapest way I can see to call her from your landline would be CallEasy (http://www.calleasy.com/en/index.php), which would cost 6.5ppm + the cost of a call to a UK landline.
You could also use CallEasy with your computer (either to initiate a call between your landline and the mobile, or to actually make the call from the computer) which would cost 6.5ppm.
The system with the 3 SIM looks good if she is happy to change her number or have 2 mobiles.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Thanks for all your replies, she is on Irish O2, and think changing number or having 2 phones is not practical.0

I would get yourself a SIM on one of the networks I mentioned earlier then.0
