i have changed address twice this past year since I took out an esure policy and this is the second time i have had to pay nearly £50.
i will not be renewing with them.

And my bloomin' quidco cashback was refused for some reason too by esure!

I've been with esure for a long time and, thanks to a pheasant smashing into the side of my car and writing off the side panel and damaging the mirror and 2 doors, I've now got to stay with them. While I've not lost my no claims my premium with everyone else has risen as I have to declare the claim I made. However, I changed my address last year and was not charged anything at all. In fact my premuim went down slightly.

Maybe they do this to new policy holders or those that 'hop' between policies to get cashback. Maybe this is why they charge such a high cancellation fee.

You should be able to safely buy online direct, and be given clear concise literature (even before you buy, online) not just on the obvious, like excesses etc .

These are quoted in the T&C though and you should be reading these before you buy ANYTHING online, not just insurance. There are some pretty unscrupulous people trading online.

Can I ask why you have to stay with them? I was under the impression you can change co's even if a claim isn't settled but your policy is up for renewal

Who will you renew with then? (most have admin charges)

Esure are known for their low premiums and a £25 admin charge is reasonable. Assuming you dont move again in the next policy year, do you mean you will pay a higher premium rather than use esure just because they charged you a fee which they publish and most other insurers charge as well?

I could change but with policies costing £200 more (and I have quoted on lots of companies, they all increase the premium because of the accident) Esure hasn't changed the price of my premium at all.

Indeed, I had a van at the same time and when it came to renew the claim made a difference to the van insurance, but staying with the same insurer had no impact so I stayed.

I am not complaining though, I pay less than £200 for my Rio fully comp with fully protected NCB and I really cannot find it cheaper, even with cashback, so as long as they remain the cheapest I have no issue staying with them.

I would not have minded so much but the damn thing flew out of the grass into the front wing and bounced down the back of the car damaging both doors and taking off the moulded electric wing mirror. Just replacing the wing mirror would have cost more than the Excess so this is why we went through the Insurance company. I never even dreamed they could cause so much damage.

Oh I see. I understand now. Makes sense to stay in your situation.

    Thanks for clarifying.

( I wanted the clarification as my Dad has an ongoing claim going on that could take a couple of years to settle...its a personal injury claim...he wants to change insurers at renewal and I thought I had my info wrong and you were going to say you can't change cos whilst a claim is going on)

    Thanks again

Even if you move half a mile away from your current address - you'll pay - yes - £25.50!

That's a joke. Its free to tell the DVLA when you move address and they send you a new card too, why should Esure sting policy holders for £25.50, they do not have to issue a new certificate or do anything.

    Thanks for the warning.

Thats a pretty average admin fee. Bare in mind that by changing address, even if only half a mile up the road, constitutes a new certificate, schedule etc. And most of these details have to be registered on the Motor Insurance Database as well at a cost.

They just need to issue a new schedule, the certificate does not show the address and as far as I know the MID does not include the address.
