I have a Nokia PAYG O2 phone which has just stopped working. As such, I'm going to replace it. I've seen loads of these sign up to a contract and get cashback deals, but don't have a clue what I'm doing with them.

All I want is a modern mobile, probably Nokia, preferably with a decent camera, that I can use (or unlock to enable me to use) my O2 PAYG sim. If I can avoid paying out over £100 for just the phone, I'd love to!

Can anyone give me some basic advice, or point me in the right direction? I'm thinking of a Nokia 6230i as I've used one before and it appears simple to use.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. Will check them out shortly.

There are some interesting threads on here. I just don't understand why on earth these companies offer such (on the face of it) brilliant deals. Naivety coming through again I guess!

E2save have an offer that might suit you. I can advise that e2save are part of Carphone Warehouse, I've used them and feel confident to recomend them.

On Orange you can have the phone on a 12 month contract, 1000 minutes per month off-peak to landlines or other Orange phones. It's a cashback deal that makes it free. See here:

    Hi peeps,

I just got a brand new nokia 6230i free. I also qualify for cashback of £45 - for using - you at work (see left of linked page) £40 from quidco and £20 for referring myself as I am on my third contract now.

    200 free xnet minutes
    100 free texts per month

Now I can send and receive email's from my phone and also connect it to the internet and surf using gprs/edge (speed up to 236.8 Kbit/s) through my laptop which is also for free just now with a 512mb limit.

£3.99 for seven months. Cashback of £182.07.

12 month contract at £30 per month

    Total cost = £360

    Total cashback =

    £182.07
    40.00
    45.00
    20.00

    = 287.07

Total costs to you = £72.93

Don't forget you get 1200 texts free over the year and also 2400 xnet mins for the same period - free £110 phone as well.

And you get free insurance for 3 months, a small digital clock/temperature gauge.

The phone is the best part of all.

    dap

OOOpps I just about forgot that the xnet mins/texts roll over to the following month for 3 months.

Hope this helps someone to a fairer deal.

6230i is one of the models available 1/2price 6 months 120 plan, in Orange.

They don't expect lots claim forms/cashback, just a discounted rate of £12.50 for half of your 12month agreement.

& £50 credit on your bill, for your old fone.

This is what the Luton shop offered me yesterday (I looked for V3i, but not done the deal yet, 'cos I want to stay O2)

Thanks for the tips. Loads to think about. I think a cashback deal is the way forward. I just need to make sure I remember to return the bills!
