An update if anyone is interested. I asked the salesman about the discrepancy in the mileage. It now turns out that the car was used as a run around buy customers/salesman for three months. Interestingly the car smelt of smoke I thought it was illegal to smoke in such vehicles. More to the point I wouldn't have touched it if I had known all and sundry had been hooning around in the car. I am still suspicious of the paperwork as I now have the V5 and dates still don't match up so I am going to request the full ownership history.
I took the car back so it could be looked at explained I am simply looking for a swap. After waiting for a call I had to ring the dealership only to be told there isn't anything wrong with the car but I am not allowed to pick it up until Tuesday! So basically the problems are in my head. The car they lent me whilst they have mine absolutely stank of cigarette smoke so much that it turned my stomach. There aren't any no smoking signs in the car and the price signage is in the boot. Another car they are using before selling on doubtless without telling anyone its history. For all they know I have spent the past few days doing donuts and driving it at break neck speed. Fortunately I don't speed or feel the need for donuts.
I don't quite know how to get rid of this car without been forced into the expense of a full mechanical report and maybe a letter from a solictor.
Any ideas?:hello: Like a Broken Pencil I Have No Point :hello:0 -
It's not an offence,as far as I'm aware,to smoke in a car.
It is,however,an offence to smoke in a works vehicle.Truck etc. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
Yes I was wondering where the law stood as I have been given a courtesy car which is doubtless used as a run around by the salesmen which I would have thought made it a works vehicle? I know that people aren't allowed to smoke in pool cars. There is a no smoking sign on the pricing signage in the boot but not in the car itself. Someone has clearly been smoking heavily and recently in this vehicle. It looks as if the dealership have had this one since December.:hello: Like a Broken Pencil I Have No Point :hello:0

Sorry I posted this in the Consumer forum before realising this was a more apt place.
Hi, I wonder if anyone can please help me out with some advice. I bought a Peugeot last week with about 30k on the clock. When I test drove it I mentioned it sounded a bit rough and was told it needed a service. Having paid for the car a I got all the paperwork and now it is apparent that the car had a new cam belt back in December and these normally don't get changed until about 70k miles. According to the paperwork the car in general needed a lot of work. Having driven the car for just under a week I find it stalls easily and when idling the engines revs jump up and down. I took it to an independent garage for a professional opinion. The mechanic agreed the car's engine had a lot work done to it recently and it didn't sound right when idling. He was concerned about various engine noises and he would take it back. He said although he couldn't sure the car would probably cost a lot money in the not to distant future and I would have been better off keeping my old car.
Obviously I want to take the car back. It came with a three month warranty I just want to swap it like for like in terms of value. I am tempted to call ahead and talk to the salesman so a courtesy car can be sorted out. OH thinks we should just turn up and explain to them we don't want the car as we don't believe it to be mechanically sound. We are already suspicious that someone else bought and returned it back in between December and March.
Any ideas, neither of us are really brave we just want a car that runs and we don't want to be fobbed off and told to keep the car we bought.
Thanks
Contact your Trading Standards....they will advise on your options.
They will give information to quote that you wish to reject the car - and have your money refunded.
Everything has to be sent recorded..
Have you tried calling the previous owner to determine any problems??
I did this when I bought my car . I asked the question about any damage ( the rear end looked repaired) - and I was told no. The previous owner asked about the damage repair!!! That's why I went to Trading Standards. I rejected the car - they did the appropraite repairs ( no cost to me) - and I am happy with what I have now.0 -
Unfortunately, the previous owner is the dealership. They sent off the V5 for both cars before they were even paid for! Like I said if I had known they'd used it as a courtesy car I wouldn't have touched it.
I have a query with the V5 as the dealership took ownership of the car mid January but they MOT'd and PDI'd it the beginning of December. I am convinced they sold it and it was returned for whatever reason. I want to know why if they lent it out between December and March the car didn't belong to them until January?
I am going to request the full history of the car it costs £5 from the DVLA. I told them if I find anything wrong with it I will no longer except a swap but I will ask for a full refund, expenses and compensation. I don't know why they don't lose the car at auction... too greedy I guess:mad::hello: Like a Broken Pencil I Have No Point :hello:0 -
The Info From Records system has now changed. You apply for it and the DVLA now send you a snotty letter back asking why you want this info and to tell the DVLA who you are etc. I have doing them at work when we have a multi owner car with no paperwork. But it's well worth the five quid in the end. If one of the ownsers phone number is exdirectory then try to find them on facebook or something lol.0
