Hi
I'm buying my first place, which was built about 35 yrs ago. The house seems like its in good condition and i cant see anything wrong with it.
As far as i'm aware the mortgage company doesnt need anything more then a valuation done on the house. Is it worth paying for a survey for my own piece of mind or not?

Really it's down to what you feel comfortable with.
With an older property, say Victorian or 1930's, I've always gone for a homebuyer survey, but did trust my own judment when I bought a property that was about 25yrs old. It appeared in excellent conditon so I only agreed to the standard valuation for the lender. When I sold that property almost 4yrs later the buyer had a homebuyers survey that showed there were no concerns with the property.
If I were to buy another property that didn't have a great deal of age to it, say built from 70's onwards, then I'd be inclinded to use my instinct once again & just go for a valuation survey.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
