Speed Camera
My mum was driving on a 40MPH road last night and going around 44/45 (Yes, very bad I know), and when she was coming up to a camera, it flashed her, before she had even passed it. It was 1 flash just before she went past it.
She said it was unusual as she though they flash once you have gone past the camera and also, she thought they flashed twice.
She's quite annoyed, as she's never had a point on her license before and never been flashed by a camera, so I'm just making sure that she did definitely get flashed for speeding and is going to get 3 points and a £60 fine, rather then it just being a warning that she's going too fast.
I don't drive, so have no knowledge of speed cameras.... I'm guessing however she's going to face the consequences for this one?

Come back once she receives a NIP. Keep the envelope and make a note of the date on which she receives it (she must receive it within 14 days by first class post or better).
At 44/45, she may be eligible for a speed awareness course.
In any event, if her speedo said 44/45, she may have only been doing 41/42 and maybe one flash means she was not caught on camera? You'll just have to wait and see.0 -
some cameras 'flash' as you approach so they have a picture of the driver,I

Did the camera flash in her face (was it facing her?), or behind her? Were the lines before or after the camera?0

I've often thought I've seen a Gatso flash as I approached it in the other direction whilst perhaps going a bit over the speed limit. It's not a bright flash and I'm wondering whether it was just a reflection from a street light that looked like a flash or whether it was some kind of infra-red flash. Any ideas?0 -

I'd be impressed if you could see the infrared flash.:cool:0 -
The camera was infront of her and flashed literally just before you got to it. She didn't look at the lines.0

That happened to me once - although at the time I was at Alton Towers on the log flume.
Seriously, I'd be suprised if your mum has been caught by everything you have said. Even if she has, there isn't anything that can be done about it. Hopefully she'll be okay.0 -
Was it a Gasto or a Truvello? The Gatso ones only catch people driving away from it despite having markers on both sides of the road.0

Ahh this old chesnut.
The only cameras that can catch you coming towards you have infrared flashes (which you can't see), e.g. Truvelo, specs cameras etc etc
Gatso's have a white flash (a bit like a xenon flash from a camera) but are only approved to take photo's from behind so's not to dazzle the driver! However some of them (i think its the ones without film in) have been known to take photo's when driving towards them but you wouldn't be prosecuted. This has happened to me several times and i have never received a ticket.0 -

Its a normal flash unit covered with a magenta filter so as not to blind the driver. Nothing to do with infrared, and quite visible.0
