Business Insurance can get you to some interesting places etc.

I much prefer it to personal lines as each case is slightly different, its problem solving using your knowledge.

I often go places for pleasure and wonder about the risks involved etc and risk avoidance for that place, its hard to switch off. I suppose its like any job that you really enjoy

No problems MF, us in the Insurance Forum are just like the rest of the MSE community, we want to help others. I often find useful info from other forums for stuff I or my friends need. MSE is a great place, shame people are not as helpful in real life"
  • Thanks Again, Again !!! ;-) ;-)
Yes MF, Dacouch and Matty have been amazing, and really put my mind at rest that I would be able to contact a Broker with some confidence that I would understand them.
I must admit (as MF knows from a PM I sent) I was quite wary of posting on MSE after seeing the aggressive way some people talk or that people tend to attack or insult rather than help, on other sections of the forum, but this thread on insurance has been so incredibly friendly and helpful.
Made me feel confident to ask questions again without fear of being thought an idiot or a spammer.

I agree with the real life comment, I spend my life trying to be helpful and will go out of my way to do things, and its nice to see other people with the same attitude on here.

    Cheers
    Andy ;-)

One other thing to be aware of when you speak to a broker.
Most policies work on a "Claims Occurred" basis. This means the insurer who provided the cover at the time of the negligent act will be the one to pick up the claim. People have 3 years for injury or 6 years for property to make a claim against you so you should keep insurance records for a minimum of 7 years so that you know who provided the cover on the relevant date.

Professional indemnity cover (for advice) is on a "Claims Made" basis. It is the insurer who provides cover on the date the claim is made that picks up the tab.

Thanks, I really looking forward to getting back into work (I been very ill for 6 years) and I am hoping to go "Live" after easter, and planning to visit my local chamber of commerce and the business link.

Will speak to those people you mention and will let you all know how I get on.

Thanks again for all the advice, really has been fantastic. If you ever have an IT problem I will repay your kindness ;-) ;-)

Will try and leave MSE alone for a bit now as I need to finish my website, though I know when it comes to doing the Terms & Conditions I am bound to come back here and ask questions.

MattyMoo, thats a good point about keeping the paperwork for 7 years. At the moment as well as the paper copy, I always scan important things and send them to a seperate Gmail account that way if a disaster strikes, at least all my important documentation can be found on email. Will make sure I add my insurance policy & claims to that Gmail account.

  • I'm very impressed.

I actually work for a business insurance broker, and what has been said it all valid. So I guess I need say no more... ;)

If you do want some further specialist advice, let me know. We'll definitely be able to help. I can get Nick, one of my collegues to get in touch - it's a whizz!

I don't want to bombard you with 'stuff' as I think most things have been covered. Well done Matty for his info! (Want a job in insurance... he he)
