Buying foreign currency with a credit / debi card - ripoff warning!

I used my visa debit card last year and got stung for the same charge. However I rang the bank (lloydstsb) and queried it, telling them I was not aware (the travel agent had not warned me - otherwise i would have gone to the cash machine as it was about £200 we changed). she said it was in my T&C of my account. I asked to tell me where in it so I could check for myself but she could not. So in the end, they did refund it!

When I got my new card for once I read the T&C properly (i know i should) and it did say on there about the charge.

I have just returned from holiday to find that Barclays charged me 4.50 for the privilege of purchasing foreign currency with my debit card. I am furious! Even the CSA at the bank said she was unaware of this charge. I'm currently tying to get them to refund the charge.

Is not easier just to have a look on their website: Current account rates & charges > Debit cards ?
(Or Debit cards abroad > Read important information about cash transaction charges.)

Yes, I should have learnt by now not to listen to what their staff advise.

I am pleased to say that Barclays refunded the full fee to me after I complained.
