Just read pawpurrs's article about gas/elec. I think it is good.
I think it is may be even a little bit better to add bit readings when you report yours. e.g. you actually used 100 unit and they estimated that you used 80. So you can call or write to them saying that you used 110 unit. the extra 10 unit will be on the cheapest price range (possibly) and you actually paid some of your future gas with today's price.
The only neg thing would be that if the gas price goes down (will it???), you will lost some money.
