I want to make sure that I am educated on various angles on how to approach this situation. We lived in a different state than my father-in-law, age 80. When my mother-in-law passed away, we came and got my handicapped sister-in-law and have been taking care of her. Since my F-I-L was left alone, within 6 months a much younger woman, age 55, that worked at the CPA firm that he has his accounting done at married him. He then quit talking to us or his daughter. After their first year aniversary my F-I-L started getting my husband to do work for the family business. My F-I-L also kicked the woman out of their new home six months earlier and filed for divorce. Then my F-I-L had colon cancer surgery and asked her to stay with him. Then she moved out again because he was still persistant with the divorce. He didn't realize that when he got married it cancelled out his will. She would not give him the divorce. Then we moved to the same state with my F-I-L and my husband is working at the ffamily business. He started feeling ill and again turned to her. He now had a brain annerizm and is a vegtable. She is his next of kin and is taking full control over him. She also moved her belongings back into his house. Now she told my husband that he has to look for a job because she plans to close the business. As of yet, she hasn't gotten into his bank accounts either personal or business. She wants in the business account because that is were all the money is. A little background on her. Her exhusband was a CPA and she was his secretary. He was sent to prison for embesseling millions. She testified against him, divorced him and ended up with "ALOT" of assets. My F-I-L was working on a new will with his divorce attorney but was unsure what if anything he was going to leave her. He also was still pressing her for the divorce. They lived together a total of about 12 month of the 2 years they were married before this happened. Are their laws that protect us? Can we sue if she does get access to the accounts? What about depriving the handicapped daughter of her father? He was clearly not all there in the last few years.
We are in the process of filing for guardianship. But if she gets it, what will keep her from closing the family business she has absolutely nothing to do with? It has been so hard finding anything about these situations on the internet.

Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -
I agree. See a soliciter FAST. You may be able to go to the Court of Protection on behalf of his daughter.0

I am guessing from your posts that you are based in the USA? (or am I reading it totally wrong?). If so then you would be better off posting in a US forum for help.
Good Luck with everything

I think what Gem means is - it sounds as though you are in the US. If you are - an US forum (one similar to this but American based) I don't know of one, but I assume there will be something- where people who are familiar with the American legal system would be able to offer more help. Good luck.0
