Extend Laptop Warranty?

My daughters Laptop is almost a year old now and i have just been offered an extended warranty for another 2 years for £53 by Toshiba.

Normally i dont touch extended warranties with a bargepole but am tempted by this offer.

Has anybody got any experience of Toshiba warranties or any help to offer.

Cheers

    Hi,

Funnily enough ... I've just been offered the same deal ... not really sure it is worth it ... my laptop cost £400 a year ago .... what would I get if it broke down after 1 year & 1 day .... without warranty ... should it still be fit for purpose? Not sure?

What happens if it does break down & I have the extended warranty ...

Remember that if you drop it & screen breaks .... you aren't covered .... but it is fairly cheap ... so I'm still undecided!!

So in reality not muc help!!:o

Depends what you mean by "break down", any component could fail, most likely will be the hard drive, and without a backup you'll lose all your data, and no extended warranty will cover that. You could replace the internal drive for £50 depending on size, for a faster and larger model, reinstall and recover your backup.

If the screen failed, or another inbuilt component such as the motherboard, then it's far more complex, and the repair would cost a lost more.

I've never had a screen nor motherboard fail on any computer I've ever owned, but never say never. Personally I'd not touch an extended warranty with a bargepole, but some a low cost for piece of mind, on an expensive item, I can see the appeal, £26 a year isn't too pricey..

Damage, such as dropping it and breaking, should be covered by your house contents insurance too...
  • Yep its a tricky one, the laptop cost £400 a year ago and in normal circumstances i would not take it,

BUT 26 squid a year is not much and i dont fancy forking out for a new one.

So on balance will probably take it.

Sounds like a bargain given the things that can go wrong with a laptop. A broken keyboard (my last Tosh has two replacement keyboards in three years) will cost you way more than the warranty cost.

Does it include accidental damage too? I'm guessing not, so it might be worth checking your home contents insurance to see what would happen with a cracked screen or if a Starbucks Mocha Latte soaked into the keyboard :)
  • Bumpity bump.

Just for comparison i bought the laptop from Currys and have just had a letter to upgrade the warranty,

    £159 for 3 years:rotfl: from Mastercare.

No thanks will definately go with Toshiba.

    Cheers
