Why Have BT Closed 1571 Online?

I have just discovered to my annoyance that BT have cancelled (without any notice apparently) the 'listen online' service that used to be available free with 1571. As far as I can see this is not even available as a premum service either now.
I used this facility to check my Mum's messages for her, as she can't manage answerphones and is very deaf.
Does anyone know if an alternative is available but still using BT (as she is contracted in for another year still)?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

The online 1571 has been removed completey and there is unfortunatly no alternative.

I can only assume that there wasn't enough people using it and may still not have had enough people using it if they were paying if it as part of a premium service.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.

Not sure if you can do it with standard callminder, but I have the paid for version & you can log in remotely...call the number, when it diverts to callminder press *, key in a preset pin & hey presto you can access.

You can also link a mobile to it, so that when a message is left an sms is sent to the mobile. In this situation if you ring the number from the linked mobile, pressing * drops you straight into the system without having to enter a pin.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

    Hi macman

The 1571 online service was withdrawn at the end of March. bunking_off is right - the best alternative is to sign up for BT 1571 Text Alert service - you'll get a text each time your mum gets a message left on 1571. You can then dial into her mailbox remotely and access the messages via a PIN. If you want me to set up the text alerts or give you info on accessing the mailbox you can reply to my PM.

    Cheers

The other alternative is to save even more money by removing the 1571 service completely. My mum often forgot the service existed, and it was much easier for people to call back when she answered, than have a pile of cost bearing services to collect messages that are often unimportant.
