halifax underwriters

I applied for an account few weeks ago with Halifax it got refered to their underwriting team they turned around and said i had a linked address with a default on my credit file.
I then signed up with all three agencies and upon checking them over it was soon apparent to me that this was not the case.
I telephoned them this morning the adviser went through again then said that i have account elsewhere which have gone over the overdraft and been charged this is not the case.
So why are they saying stuff about my credit file that is not correct.
Is this typical of underwriters?
I had a similar experience with Lloyds went in on day the guy rang through from a different room they said no silver, the next day i went in with my account statements, debit card etc from other bank the lady rang through to appeal it and another underwriter said yes without the information i brought in!!!!!
So inconsistent its untrue.

They should have some sort of appeal process. If you can provide them with a copy of your credit file which shows that what there are saying is incorrect then you should be able to appeal it?0
