Well this is all news to me. I work for Kent LA and have heard nothing about any evaluations. We have been awarded a 1% cost of living rise from April. Considering our council lost £50million in the Icelandic banks I would have thought we'd be following suit if this is nationwide.
Does anybody know something I don't...?

How long have you worked for them? It maybe that they went through their process a while ago....

Also, the 2009/10 pay award has not yet been agreed, so am a little confused where your 1% has come from?

A little over 5 years, all at the same school.
1% is what the Council have proposed and UNISON do not seem to be opposing it.

Most new starters with my LA are unaware of JE. It's kept very quiet by LA as they know it's contentious just like single status was.

Perhaps the LA has cut itself off from National agreement. There is talk of this in my LA.

There is also the issue of qualification bars currently in place which many starters are unaware of. They specify X qualification is essential/desirable but then don't tell them they can't reach the top of their scale unless they have a higher level qualification that wasn't mentioned in the job description/requirements. Many people would not have taken the job if they had known that while they may start on say £15k on a job advertised as £14-18k that they can't earn more than £16k with their current qualification which met the job spec.

Gawd! One would think that public sector employers at least would have a few morals between them.

First the deliberate keeping quiet about the fact they are about to cut the pay - and it looks like they have been trying to "gag" fellow employees from mentioning it.

Now we see that people may not be able to reach the top of the payscale it has been agreed that they are on without getting additional qualifications  ...extra hassle that wasnt mentioned at interview...and suppose one doesnt pass those exams to GET that further level of qualification one never knew was necessary?

Are there ANY employers out there one can trust at all? Don't all answer at once - I know darn well the answer would appear to be "No"...

What job is she doing? Is it possible for her to take on extra duties to justify the promised rate?

I doubt it. I forgot about OH pay rise last year. Police officers given 2.5% but not back dated so only really 1.9% increase while PCSO who work alongside them had the full 2.5%. Some PCSOs take home more than a fulltime (non probationer) PC.

We've been over just under 1% this year according to Unison.

Local Government Employers have offered 0.5%, on the table until June then to be totally withdrawn if no agreement with Unions.
