Spilt Paint

Yesterday I painted a celing and now I've found a big spot of paint on the carpet in another room. I'm not sure how it got there and I'm really annoyed with myself because it's a fairly new carpet (1 year old).

Any tips on getting the paint out? I thought about white spirit but I don't know if the carpet would like that.

Hmm... depends on the type of paint, but since it's a ceiling I suspect it's emulsion. Yes?

Try soaking it with water with just a little bit of washing up liquid added. Leave it for a while and then dab it off. Do not rub it - you'll only spread the stain and drive the paint deeper into the carpet.

In fact - since the paint is now dry you might be able to carefully scrape the worst of it off before you start to soak it.

    HTH :)

Edit: Just a thought... check your paint tin. Some of them not only tell you how to clean the brushes but how to deal with drips too. (if the soak doesn't work you could (at your own risk) try using on the carpet whatever they suggest using to clean your brush.) In any event - you could try out your proposed cleaning technique on a small patch of carpet that is out of view to make sure it doesn't do any damage.

  • Hi Ellie P

I would go very careful with paint on a carpet. I guess paint is a grease based product, therefore certain products are unlikely remove this stain and it could be tricky to remove. Perhaps Chem-Dry's Grease & Oil Remover product may help?

    Hope this helps

  • I would first scrape off as much as I could and then try a little shaving foam
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

What kind of paint is it?

Try some oxyaction/vanish type solution on it if it's emulsion

I bet you'll cover your carpets, etc before you start painting in future. It's surprising where the paints gets no how careful you are!
If you will the end, you must will the means.
