Have you ever noticed, there is a tendency on this Website, that whenever you post something that you think may be useful and helpful to other people, some !!!!!!, anxious to show how clever they are, comes along and tries to find fault.
    Sad really.
The point of an open forum is for free discussion to take place. This means that other people will not necessarily share your view on a given topic.

If you don't want to grasp that concept, then perhaps this forum isn't the right one for you.

The detail I posted is contrary to what you say. In the absence of any written confirmation from Sainbury's Bank to the contrary, I would choose to believe the extract I posted, simply because this detail was actually taken from their website.

Please see the email that I have had from Sainsbury's regarding the last date to pay to get the 3% - I am not sure why this is different to the date on the website.

Thank you for your e-mail dated 7th April 2009.

In regards to your query, to be able to take advantage of our great offer rate of 3% AER (variable) you must have opened the account before the 7th April. However made the first deposit of £5,000 or more by no later than the 13th April 2009.
I trust that this information helps.

However, I have not been able to get a payment to them in time due to Easter Holidays so I have replied asking them to close the account.

Closed two savings accounts with Sainsbury's today. Glad they asked the reasons the accounts were being closed -poor interest rates.

  • S**t, I have missed it by a day - I transferred an exploratory pound to my new account first to make sure the transfer info was correct etc. I then sent £5K and they added it on the 8th.

Now I'll have to transfer it all out and start looking again ;-)

    Thanks for all the info.

Still, if I leave a pound in, it will cost them more than a pound in admin costs I hope.

  • I opened an account in time and deposited £5,000 by the date but am only getting 0.75%.

Spoke to the helpdesk and they confirmed this is the rate as my first deposit was not £5,000. With any new account I setup initial transfer from my main bank account with a small amount to test it is all working. So I transferred £100 and when I saw this had gone through OK I did one for £4,900. The £100 deposit triggered their T&C for this account which required first deposit to be £5,000 or greater.

I spoke to manager explaining what I had done and why plus that in all my many years of savings I had never seen this particular clause. Waste of time though as they had no flexibility so I will now close the account.

    Don't you love banks....
