It's wierd, I've just finished reading The Player Of Games by Iain M Banks, a sci-fi novel about a guy who goes half-way across the galaxy to an unpleasant, barbaric race, to compete as an alien guest in a very important tournament of a very deep and meaningful game on which their whole civilization is based and around which their entire lives revolve, rather like everything on this forum is based on the Magnum comp. (Of course, I'm not implying that the people on this forum are unpleasant or barbaric by any means - I'm sure you can accuse each other of that with far more venom than I could, ha ha ha! :-)

Not too surprisingly he wins the tournament (and in so doing, brings down their entire empire), but afterwards he feels very sad and empty and misses them greatly.

Obviously I'm not winning a tournament and we're in companionship, not competition, and I'm a man not an alien(!), but I did find it strange how alike the end of the book is to how I feel. Hopefully I won't bring down the entire website like he did their empire!

I assume the wem's from midnight tonight will come through about 12:35am Thursday. I suggest we all meet up on the forum at about 12:30am Thursday (can change if the 48:35 delay changes) for a final get together (for this thread anyway) and to find out how we each got on.

    Good?

lol, one of my favourite books, and i just re-read it the other night too, spooky!! if you are gurgeh can i be Mawhrin-Skel!!
