hi people, im looking to buy a new desktop pc that hopefully i wont have to upgrade for a few years, and im wondering what people think of this. good value?
bear in mind, there is no monitor/speakers/keyboard/mouse.
7 or 8 hundred is about my budget and i want to get the most powerful machine i can afford. im just so sick of messing round on the dell site.
any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Why don't you use a shopbot like price runner. Using the filtering section of the Price runner, you can match the spec to the Ebay example. Then you can search for the best value machine across multiple retailers. I've included a link to help you start your search:
PriceRunner search for Desktop PC match spec
Hope this helps.0 -
Wow ... Wish i'd seen that before I'd bought a Mesh! Very impressive. Although I have to say I'm always a little bit dubious about ebaying for such things.
edit: not sure if the operating system is included - on their website Windows XP Home is an "optional extra" for an extra £69.0 -
Stumpy, if it was a normal ebay sale I'd agree with you but it isn't.
This company, Cube, has had systems reviewed in the PC magazines which I've seen and they have had good write ups. Not quite as glowing as they make out mind you and they have been slated a little for their mean warranty. Don't think I'd go for RTB, I've always dealt with Evesham where you get a choice of 2 or 3yr on-site.
Also sounds like on-board sound, also a bit on the tight side.
It's been reduced twice so I think they are using ebay hopefully to shift some surplus stock.0 -
Not impressed - X1300 isn't that powerful (don't be fooled by the 512mb of ram business). Although it states its Corsair ram its probably their Value select range. It doesn't actually say what OS is installed and I can't see what peripherals it comes with. Most of the features listed e.g. usb ports, lan, sound etc are all standard features of motherboards costing £50 or less.
On checking their website it appears that XP Home is £69 extra

Evesham or Mesh would offer better value for money imoand as djpohn says you'll get a longer warranty thrown in.
if you're looking for a quiet system that does most things well then the Dell 5150 range is as good as any.0 -
to be honest im getting a little confused. i've been lining up a new desktop for a month or so. i don't exacltly need it as a gaming machine, but i 'd like to run a few games. nothing too demanding though.
one thing i would like is for it to replace my stereo system.
i dont care at all about the software it offers as i have everything i need already. plus its always fun to uninstall norton! and thats always the first job.
i like to run a fair few programs at once though so its gotta be able to hack it.0 -
Have a look at https://www.evesham.com and see what you can get for £800 then you can compare elsewhere. Don't forget the warranty you get at Evesham though.0

You can't beat the Dell 5150. Quiet and fantastically well engineered. See what specs you can get for what money on the specific 5150 and 9150 Dell pages at https://www.cheapestdellprices.co.uk.
