Printer Problem

Hi, I am trying and failing to help my dad to get his printer to work. It's a Brother MFC 235C. It has replaced an identical printer that broke so I thought this would be the least problematic option. It's connected to his laptop via a USB cable. The printer can copy and scan but when printing something from the laptop it just prints a blank page. When he looks at the printer through the control panel it says its offline with an error message.
When the first printer broke it had a paper jam and the new printer is failing to print a test page. I wonder if maybe the prnting is just spooling. I even tried without success to get him to delete the printers so he just re-install the printer but computer says no!
I am flummaxed as the printer will copy meaning the cartridges are fine. It understands the laptop has asked it to print something, therefore everything is plugged in.
Any ideas? Thanks

If it won't print a test page (by this I mean with the USB cable unplugged and using the relevant button combination) then there must be a hardware fault with the printer.
Make sure the printer is selected as the default printer in Control Panel and that it is online. No free lunch, and no free laptop

That's just it he can't get it online. In the control panel it says status error. I am thinking he needs to purge the print jobs?
Thanks:hello: Like a Broken Pencil I Have No Point :hello:0 -
Yes you should delete any print jobs that have failed to print, then make sure it's the default printer and online and try again. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Might be worth trying this...
Start ---> run ---> cmd ---> net stop spooler
delete any print jobs
Start ---> run ---> cmd ---> net start spooler
then try printing again0
