Laptop 'Plugged in not charging'

I have noticed a lot of messaged posted last year on this subject, but no solutions.

I purchased a HP 6735s laptop about a week ago. It has developed a problem with the battery, if you unplug it and use it without the charger then later plug back in, and if you hover over the power icon it says 'plugged in not charging' within a short space of time. HP said they must be faulty and send them back. I bought it from Ebuyer.com and they were very helpful and are offering an exchange. After looking online this seems to be a very common problem. I think this is a software problem not a hardware one. It seems to be very common with laptops and vista. I urge you to check your laptop now!

I can't decide if it is worth sending it back in as I came across others who have the same problem and exchanged it for this problem to happen again.

The solution seems to be to unplug it and re boot it then plug in again. This seems to solve it but it re occurs. There must be a fix for this as so many other people have had this problem.

Anyone come across this or know of a fix?

I've never heard of this problem before but whether it's a hardware or software fault it's still a fault and could well be the early signs of something worse to come.

Change it while you have the chance.

Battery not charging means the batterys shot, or the voltage sensing in the laptop is shot.

Swap it,the problem will not go away, it will just get worse. Read your warranty carefully, batteries usually have a lesser warranty than the laptop,

But it does charge - the battery is not shot. I think it is a software problem! I just have to reboot to make it charge.

Google the phrase "plugged in not charging" and see the number of hits with new computers. I don't see the point in swapping it as the next one will be the same. There is someone who has posted that he bought 2 of the same laptops, replaced them both and the next 2 are the same!

I had this with an Advent and Vista. A re-installation from the recovery DVD sorted it out.

Is it rather it means plugged in not charging, because the batter is already fully charged and it's ceased charging rather than anything else? is the charging light on the laptop lit?

Ie just an odd phrase rather than an error?

No it doesn't mean this because the battery will not be fully charged. It will be less than 100%.
