Once a card has expired/cancelled is their any harm in NOT destroying the card? Im thinking of seeing how many cards i can collect over the years

Can't see why not.
The only risk might be if someone steals it and guesses the new expiry date and used it fraudulently.
In that situation, as long as you reported it stolen, you wouldn't be liable for any fraudulent use.
