  • Hi,
i am also in funy situation with edf, similar but different and maybe someone knows and can advise me..
I lived in a flat which was demolished last year and vacated in 2006. I had a contract with EDF in the place since 2003. My energy consumption was extremely low. when I called regarding the estimated readings despite repeated visits from a meter reading guy, I was told that the reading was 'outside my billing cycle'. now they discovered that when my meter was installed, the initial reading was wrong - 4 digits instead of 5 - and that therefore I owe them £170.

I wrote to them many times, and all my letters were ignored. when I tried to fax them a letter, their fax did not work. my position was to pay half as I at the time had a direct debit set up that covered the almost full amount of what i used then. when I moved out, I got a repayment. so in a way, they had the money at the time, then gave it back and now demand it again in times when my incomes are below little.

They told me on the phone that they were entitled to call back money for 6 years! now, I am reading that there is a billing code - where can i find out.
