Parental Rights

Hiya all

Just want a bit of advice.

My little boy has had a rough few months he is 2 and a 1/2 and seems to have been ill continually recently.

I have had about 5 days off work with him and last week my boss commented (while I was talking to her) about the amount of time I've had off (i only work 2 days a week.) He has had tonsillitis a few times and now has an ear infection. as well as a couple of sickness bugs and numerous colds.

Just want to know what my rights are regarding time off to care for him. I asked my boss about unpaid leave but was told no that is only up to 10 days for emergencies.

She told me partner should stay off with him but it isn't that simple he gets not holidays but school holidays and we can't afford to lose his wage.

What are my rights

Thanks
Give me the boy until he's seven and i'll give you the man.

Hi plumpmouse. I don't know the answer to your question but I have to admit this is what makes me have reservations about going back to work. My 2 year old daughter has been ill and I've missed time at college and it would have been more if grand-parents hadn't stepped in.

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Also ACAS has a number of good links & advice - look at time off for dependants as well.

Its been an absolute nightmare really. Every week we have the what are we going to do about nursery this week conversation.

My mum used to have him so it was never a problem but with nursery it obviously is.

But have to say I am glad to have 2 days at work I think its done both me and my son good in a lot of ways. (but still wish I could afford to give up permantantly!!)

    Theres no pleasing me really
