us games on uk nintendo ds lite

Can anyone please tell me if the U.S. version of Animal Crossing will "talk" to the U.K version? I've just bought one for my daughter and reading posts seems to suggest that some ds games are fine for multiplayer use in different formats and others aren't.

It may work over the internet by friendcode, but not where you have 2 DS's in the same room and try to connect to eachother. We had this problem when we brought a copy on amazon and they supplied a US version. So if your playing over the internet you should be ok, have multiple ds's in the same room and they won't work.

I have tried linking games from US/UK before and its never worked, do you mean on system link or over the internet?

Thanks for impressively fast replies! I think she'll want to play it with friends with their consoles in the same room. Looks like I've boo-booed with this then? Didn't realise in my ignorance that "NTSC/PAL" format meant US not UK on the Ebay listing. A case of this buyer didn't beware I suppose.

Normally it wouldn't make much difference but this is one of those games which is more fun to share! You could either sell it on and buy another copy or try and return it.

There is no difference in the games as such, and Nintendo's region codes are hit and miss in terms of compatability.

Mario Kart UK and Mario Kart US will talk together in the same room. If your talking over the net if set to "regional" they will only talk to the same region (ie US to US) as that way poeple should be in the same timezone. Set to worldwide over the internet they'll play anyone.

Basically it's hit and miss, and the games themselves have no regional lock out, any game will play in any DS, with the one exception of Chinese IQ versions as they are slightly different to support the extended language files.

I've a Japanese DS Lite (bought there on holiday 'cos the black and red isn't out in the UK) and I've never had problems with UK games, or linking to any other games.

The games working as mentioned isn't a problem, I have a US DS as I wanted the red and black one.

When linking its down to the game, I tired guitar hero on tour with a UK/US and it wouldn't go.

If you are willing to wait I could actually test this for you as I have to DS's and ways of getting both versions quite easily...

Very kind, thank you for offer. I think I'll either try and get money back (not hopeful!) or sell it on, and get UK version - think better to leave game in wrapper for selling than unwrap, try it and find it doesn't work with her friends, then have to sell it as used.
