The Grand Canyon - HELP???

Hello,
I'm off to Las Vegas in a few days and I'm hoping to go to and see the Grand Canyon. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a tour that will get us from our hotel on the strip to the canyon.

I know that there a specific thread but it's quite vast so any specific help on this would be much appreciated.

I would prefer to book the trip in advance and pay for it in pounds (as I've left it too late to get a holiday credit card) although any recommendations would be fantastic.

Thanks in advance :T

What kind of tour are you looking for and what price are you willing to pay?Tours to the south rim can cost as little as under $100 to go by coach, and will be vastly more expensive if you wish to go by plane. If its a helicopter tour you want to go for as far as i know they only operate from vegas to the west rim which isn't considered to be as scenic as the south rim of the canyon. If you narrow down the type of tour you wan,t or your price range it may be easier for you to get recomendations.

Thanks Claire for your quick reply. I'm not sure to be honest. There will be two of us going. We only have $1300 of currency which is why I would like to book it in pounds before we go, although that's not essential I suppose.

I have no idea about what would be best but I'm open to all ideas if they are recommended.

    hi
I would recommend a helicopter trip. As early as possible. we left the hotel at 6am (4 in the helicopter) flew over the cannon then landed at the bottom of it for breakfast. It was expensive but worth it. I know people who took the small plane trips and they were all very very sick - had skips at the airport to put all the sick bags in when landing. One friend even considered getting a coach back as he couldn't face the plane. But go as early in the morning as possible as the turbulance isnt as bad then.

    Hi

We went by plane with Scenic Airlines - totally Fab day. Flew over Hoover Dam to South Rim, Imax film on history of Canyon, lunch at a local hotel & visited viewing points at Mather Point and Bright Angel Lodge - awesome!!!
We were picked up at our hotel & taken to Boulder City airport & returned to the hotel early evening. Brilliant experience - would highly recommend.
No-one on our trip (2 planes) was air-sick!!

But do have a look at the Vegas thread here at MSE. The people there are wonderful and I had a lovely time last time planning my LV trip and reading all the great trip reports of the thread. It is really a treat! I sometimes just read through it to reminisce and because it is one of the best threads here at MSE (imo).

I really didn't want to go on a small plane never mind a Helicopter but believe me it was worth it.

We didn't book until we where there & then with our rep but there are cheap ticket shops on the strip that do the same trips & a lot cheaper they also do the shows.

You'll be sure to have a great time, we did!

I did the champagne lunch helicopter trip right down onto the canyon floor with this company and it was money well spent...

Still got almost the entire trip on video and it's so atmospheric.
We flew up the front of the Hoover Dam and over Lake Mead to the Canyon whist the pilot played Western theme tunes through our headphones which was hilarious, and yes! I did reach for the sick bag when we broached the rim of the Canyon because you get a sudden uplift that makes you heave a little, but we were all ok.
We had a gorgeous picnic lunch at the side on the Colorado River and the pilots were a mine of information.
Flying back to Vegas, I was in the front passenger seat. The pilot played rock classics through the headsets and I put the headset on the mic of my camcorder, resulting in amazing footage of of us flying back over Lake Mead at sunset to The Rolling Stones' 'Wild Horses'. It was just one of those memories that will live with me for my lifetime. Those of my friends who have seen the video still think it's a "Wow!" moment.

When we got back to Vegas, the pilot did a couple of circuits of the Stratosphere before doing a dipped run the full length of The Strip at night.
