Alliance & Leicester Premier account overdraft

I've been approved for an A&L Premier account and I was hoping to get a decent overdraft on it to use to pay off some hire purchases early. I rang them up today and spoke to their switching team who said I'd only been given a £200 overdraft. She said they would be able to match the overdraft on my old account if I took statements into the bank, etc, showing that I am out of the overdraft 2 days each month.
Well I'm never out of my overdraft so I won't be able to meet that requirement, but then I'm not constantly deep into it either, when my wages go in I am almost out of it. Is there any chance they will still be able to increase the overdraft limit, even if they can't fully match my old one? I would ideally need at least £1000 (old overdraft is £2000). What have other people's experiences been?

I took statements into the A&L branch 3 weeks ago and they never bothered putting an overdraft on the account. I only wanted it so I could make some money off it. Bit peeved but haven't bothered chasing as their 'switching' team is only open the convenient hours of 9-5 mon-fri.Kavanne
