Before I carry on trying to sort this pc out myself, I just thought I would see what this remote assistance is about. Is it safe to let a company/person unknown to me to be able to sort my problems out? Is my private docs still private???
Sorry if its a dumb question...

Obviously when they are "remote controlling" your PC they can see everything you can, and some systems have file transfer so they can copy things back and forth. As alienrik says, if you don't trust them, don't allow it.
Personally I prefer and use, LogMeIn very flexible, secure and the basic ones are free, but still allowing full remote control from anyone with a web connection. But obviously you need to give access to someone you trust and know...0 -
These remote assistance programs normally require you to download a small program onto your PC in order to alow remote connection. Once the job is done, you can if you wish delete that program to deny any further access.
However, as other posters have indicated, if you have any concerns about who is doing the remote access, then don't allow it. They can only access your PC when it is running and connected to the internet though. No free lunch, and no free laptop

teamviewer is good. There is no problem in letting someone into system remotely, but you have to open your eyes and must have obviously tell you want they want to help you do. If the person is copying files you will know and can terminate it easily. You can't keep a good man down...0
