You could try split ticketing in say Manchester or Leeds or York - or Carlisle if you go that way.
But I don't hold out that much hope - most cheap tickets will have long since been sold. Chances are greatest if you can travel early on the Friday
The ticket you have found is the standard fare - you can buy it on the day, it won't go up.0 -
Most ticket sites show the fastest journeys, which on this route is a combination of Transpennine Express and Crosscountry or NXEC. Cheap advance tickets are sometimes not available when combining different operators. You might find some if you select "slower routes" to force it to select Transpennine Express only journeys, or select direct servicesDid you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -
Splitting and changing at York (i.e. TPE LIV-YRK and NXEC YRK-NCL) gives a return fare of about £50, with reasonably decent timings if you avoid the Friday afternoon rush hour. Make sure you book at the nxec site because that fare includes a discount (availably only direct) for the NX part of the journey.0

To get the 10% discount from the NXEC website, make sure you buy NXEC Advance singles and not any other type of ticket.
