Car repairs under insurance

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me with a separate issue I have re: my RTA last year. We have decided to issue proceedings on my case but my solicitor needs all my expenses etc first - so I need to get my car repaired.

I am going down to get a quotation today but I realised that I didn't report one part of the accident damage to my insurance company at the time - as well as being hit at the ear my right wing mirror clipped a bollard and I completely forgot to mention this at the time. It wasn't broken which is why I didn't think it was a big deal - just a couple of scratches on the corner of it.

Should I therefore leave this out when getting a quotation done today or does it not matter? I am aware that Direct Line also come down to assess the damage themselves before agreeing to the repairs.

Thanking you in advance.

P.S. If someone could advise me before say 1pm I'd really appreciate it as this is when I'm meant to go and get the quote. I dont want to get the WM scratches quoted for if I cant include them!

How come you have not had the vehicle repaired before?

I don't know really! We didn't really know what was going to happen with my claim and then it was only a couple of months ago that we had the offer from the other side. Plus I was wary about having to pay for anything up-front myself as I have been a bit skint of late.

It was a good job I did though, as my excess dropped from £500 to £250 after I turned 25!

Your excess should not effect it if you were claiming for your repairs directly from the other Insurers.

Are Direct Line your Insurers or the other Insurers?

My solicitor has told me that I need to get the repairs done and pay my excess which is £250 towards the repairs - then rest will be paid for by Direct Line (my insurers) then those are included in my costs when the case is settled.

Do you know if I can get the wing mirror repaired or should I leave it out because I didn't mention it?

You could certainly put a claim in for it, if its genuinely part of the accident there is a good chance they will pay for it.

Incidently, you can go to the other Insurance company and get them to repair the vehicle at their cost which will mean you do not have to pay your excess and wait months to get it back. Providing the other Insurers are not disputing liability on the claim.

I see you have a solicitor, are you claiming for injuries, car hire etc?

Won't they ask why I never mentioned the wing mirror?

They have offered 75/25 in my favour - see post 'RTA on roundabout' post on page 3 (I think!).

I have a claim for injuries, yes. With regard to hire car I have 2 options - this is included in my insurance policy - and the place where I bought my car and plan to have it repaired will give me a free hire car.
