BIOS is independent of the hard drive. If you can't get in it may be damaged. It's a chip on the motherboard, so it could be expensive.gillette147 wrote:It won't go to bios when I press F12 and it won't see a CD.
Are you sure F12 is the entry into BIOS on your machine? It's often F2. Check as it fires up.
If the BIOS isn't working it may not find the hard drive. Else the disc itself may be damaged. Try to mount it in a PC, as per my previous post.My blue screen says "Unmountable_boot_drive" and just endlessly cycles between that and the other "We apologise ..." screen.0 -

In that case you'll need to buddy it onto a PC to see if it's readable, although having dropped the lappy it's likely it's dead.0

I accept that it is dead. Fair enuff.
So how easy is it to put in a new HD? What if I were to install linux?
It's not very sustainable to throw away a laptop because a plug in component has died - but I'm not buying XP at Bill Gates' prices to resurect the same PC.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.

Replacing a laptop drive is usually a 10 minute job-they're usually accessible by a hatch on the base, depends on the model. No free lunch, and no free laptop

But then I have a blank drive. I want to know what my rights are as far as getting XP? The toshiba didn't come with a windows disc.
Plus as I can't get access to an external drive/usb I still won't be able to install Linux etc.
I think I need to find a shop that does repairs.Girls are gonna love the way I toss my hair. Boys are gonna hate the way I seem.
