Help selling my car
Well I am getting my new car tomorrow Very excited. I'm buying my car privately so wont be able to p/x my car. I was wondering what peoples opinions on here were about the best way to sell your car.
I can't decide between, autotrader, ebay auction or ebay classified. They all have pro's and con's by the look of it. I was hoping people on here will have experience of each.
Also, My cars MOT runs out on the 22nd april and I wont be insured on it from tomorrow. I think it would sell for more if I got it through an MOT before selling it but I won't be insured to drive it Do you think it is worth getting it MOT'd before sale?
Also, If someone comes to test drive it what can I do? As I'm not insured on it does that mean they oculdnt use their fully comp to drive it?
Thanks very much for your help everyone

I would MOT it. Without an MOT it's potentially worth buttons / scrap value to a buyer, unless its special in some way0

Get it MOT'd as it will be a lot more saleable with a full year.
In terms of where to advertise i personally would go autotrader it is still the default choice for most people when searching for a new car.
Price realistically, get the car gleaming and take some nice photos and you shouldnt go far wrong.
As far as insurance goes, you could either get prospective buyers to arrange cover themselves but this may put some people off because of the hassle factor, or take out temporary insurance!0 -
Being 20 I think temporary insurance may be a problem. Do you have any companies in mind that offer temp insurance?
I think you are right both right. An MOT would help it sell. I'm fairly certain it will pass an MOT because I recently had a decent amount of work done to it.
Does anyone know what kind of price I should be looking at?
Its a black Peugeot 306 1.8 XS. Its on a W plate (2000). Its covered 91k miles with full service history. Cambelt recenlty changed and for the sake of the question we'll imagine it has a full years MOT as I will be taking your advice and getting it tested.
Thank you very much for your help everyone. I really will be sad to see the car go. Never had trouble with it, seems a shame to sell it but its time for an upgrade. This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
Also, I've got another question for anyone in the know.
I have a personalised plate on my car atm. I am hoping to transfer it to my new car. How long does this usually take? Thanks again everyone. Would be lost without this siteThis is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -

Fairly sure that both cars need to have valid MOT's for number plate change, so don't leave it too long.
Perhaps best to put your number on retention.0 -
def MOT the car,
as a thought I understand that you want to drive your new car straight away BUT why not keep using the old one untill it is sold then there is no problem with the insurance side of things,
most short term insurance do not cover people under 21,
for advertising try these sites nearly all are free to do it

YEs MOT it.
Put it on ebay as a classified rather than an auction. Miles cheaper than autotrader and most people now look at ebay as well as autotrader. I sold a car within a couple of hours after advertising it on ebay quite recently, only about £15 I think0
