Car finance mess up
I purchased a car through a finance agreement that went through fine. Problem is 17 days later they have phoned up saying that the house number used in the agreement was different from mine and that I have to return the car!
Does anyone know where I stand in this situation because it's not my fault it's there typing skills. I'm meeting with the sales manager this afternoon so please type fast.
I will also let you know what happens
Thanks

How have you supplied them the address info? Did you send them in or did they take it over the phone? Did they tell you why exactly should they want the car back due to misstyping mistake? It's not like you can even do credit check on a person from an address any more... There should be no reason for returning the car what so ever.0

I can't see why making a simple typing error on your agreement would mean that you had to return the car.
Unless you put the wrong house number on your application / they typed the wrong number on your application meaning that when thet did a credit check they searched the wrong address?

That's what happened they used the different house number to do the credit check. As for giving them the details it was done face to face and they also required proof of address through a bank statement.
This is why I can't understand why the mistake happened and also as Any say's why did it get passed at the different address?
The other thing is that I traded in my old car to get the new one and that would probably have been sold at auction by now. I need a car for work you know.0 -

An address no longer affects credit check. It's only a check whether the person lives at the address, not the actual history of a house (like household i mean).
But if they did a proper check, the OP would not come up as person living in the house, not come up as registered on electroral roll or anything... I don't think they even did a check, the application would have fallen through!:eek:0 -
Call them again and say, that you know a bit about credit check requirements and that for you to get accepted they must have searched the correct address and then only misstyped the house number in the agreement after. You have shown them your bank statement, from which they copied it and the bank statement is showing correct address, so this is the only explanation for the error.
As they have your car, they cannot have this car back unless you get your old car back. You are willing to cooperate in the investigation of how this happened and in the correction, but they are not going to take you for ride due to their error.0 -
Thanks hopefully this will help. I just didn't want them turning round and leaving me with nothing.

I dont legally think they can leave you with nothing. You gave them the correct details, they screwed up and now want you to be inconvenienced due to it? I think not.0

How did you get on with the sales manager?0

Well it all went down. I've met with the sales manager and got no where with no car, they took it off me.
Apparently Arnold Clark take all the details and send them to the finance companies. This is when the details got changed and hence the credit check was done at the different house number and now they're saying that I can't get credit for the car. So they made me leave the car.
I totally feel like I've been diddled out of a car because all I'm getting back for my old car is £300 which is not even close to enough to get a second hand car. I have a meeting tomorrow with the general manager to see what he says. I'm looking for some form of compensation for the fact that it's there mistake and that I now don't have a car to get to work.
Do you think I'm hoping for too much?
Is there anything else that they could/should be doing or anything that I could do to make them help me more. I'm thinking that if I don't get anything solved that I'll contact the financial ombudsman to see if they can maybe do something. Any thoughts on that idea?
Thank you all so much for helping out this total newbie btw.0 -
If it was me, I'd be getting the old car back quickly before it gets sold on at auction. That way at least I'd have transport whilst a different finance arrangement was made.
Good luck with everything.DFW Nerd 0350
