Parking Ticket

Hi,
I parked in my hometown in a 10 minute waiting zone (I thought it was an hour), and came back around 30-40 mins later to find a parking ticket on my windscreen.
It said the fine was £25 if paid within 14 days or £50 after that. I should have appealed because I only popped in to get some medicine for my wife in a hurry, but forgot and sent off a cheque which arrived after the 14 days.
They cashed the cheque but a week later I got a threatening letter asking for the other £25 or they will "take legal proceeding without further notice".
I though perhaps as they cashed the cheque that it could be seen as accepting payment as final.
Should I appeal or is it too late now?
thanks

It isn't a threatening letter is it!
it's a Notice to Owner for the balance.
If you read it you will see that yes, of course you can appeal.
we need to see ALL of it and the PCN and at the very least say which Council.

its a PENALTY CHARGE NOTICE - OUTSTANDING BALANCE
BARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL
There is no mention in this letter of any right of appeal, JUST A DEMAND FOR THE FURTHER £25.0 -
Ah, I stand corrected, my apologies.
Reason is, that is very unusual, not part of the normal process.
presumably they will issue the NtO at some point and then you can make a formal appeal. Not sure what your appeal will be though. Need to hope there are document flaws and we will need to see them.

You "popped in" and it took you 40 minutes? I do a weeks worth of shopping in less than 40 minutes.
And you sent off the cheque but you weren't quick enough to meet the 14 day deadline.
I'm struggling to think why £50 wouldn't be justified here?!0 -
