Our 1.6LX has all these features and its an 02 plate.

Fair enough. The Broker I bought mine through reckoned they weren't available on the lower engine capacity models and certainly some of the LX's I have seen do not have alloy wheels. I didn't notice what size engine they had though.

Big wheels really spoil the handling of most cars. It's a fashion thing.
15" are pretty much optimum for cars around 1100KG.

If you do want big wheels etc etc then I'd suggest buying a standard spec car and then buying the wheels yourself off Ebay.

Thanks a lot for all your comments...much appreciated...the reason I am going for a 1.4 is for insurance...it will be my first car and I am 21........Am i not correct in thinking a 1.6 will cost much more to ensure?

Just shown hubby this thread. He thinks that £3600 is way too much for this car. Being a T reg it will be "old shape", for that money he said you should be able to get a "new shape". New shape came out on a 51 plate. We test drove a 1.4 and they were absolutely gutless. If you don't mind getting about real slow than thats ok :D We have a 1.6 and its not much better. On the insurance front I'd call them and ask, you might find theres not alot of difference. Don't just call one comp though, call a few, I call anywhere between 20 and 40 companys each year and play them off against each other. I have to do this for 2 cars and a bike now  and its paid off everytime.
