Options
Hi all,

I used to be a student 4 years ago can anyone remind me the current benefits of being a student?

Ones i can think of are:

25% dicount off council tax (im working)
NUS card for discounts etc
Student accounts that give freebies/money for signing up etc

Anything else? :P

Young persons railacrd always used to be available to mature students too.

Access to purchase certain bits of software as a student (some companies offer discounts to those in education)

Many universities off additional courses in computing and languages for free if you are studying with them

Access to careers advice, help with CVs and job applications through your (probably much under-used) careers service

Give your wife our congratulations! (A much better prospect than counselling!)

    Thanks :)

Just a bit shocked, supposedly there were more people there with 'more experience' than my wife. So we are well chuffed.

Big difference from factory work. In terms of moneysaving I guess the bonuses are the bank accounts that give freebies hehe.

And don't forget the ability to work part time during the course (particularly in the first year) and pay no tax if you earn less than the Personal Allowance.

Congratulations to you all! She's in for a tough but worthwhile ride....

Have you got kids? You should be able to get help with childcare costs. Also, contact the LEA, when I started my sw degree, the LEA's were paying tuition fee's. I did hear they had started this again, so worth checking!

Unfortunately I don't think they pay the course fees any more, I've had to get a tuition fee loan for mine. But you do get a bursary from the nhsba... their website gives more info

Well you should still be entitled to council tax discount.
There are, on occasion and depending on where you live, all sorts of funny allowances - there's an area of my town (that'd be valliland!) where students can get a grant (only small but nevertheless) from some ancient endowment made by a local worthy...) ask at the library/council
