I think the problem is because of my Sick boiler and washing machine. they consume too much gas/electricity.

I got a fear of having bath sometimes.. :(

I do not think i can get a rid of them, they belong to my landlord, i am a tenant... :(

Ufff i am sick of paying too much money :(

Two things. First - if during the billing period (March) you were using your heating, I don't think it's unreasonable. If you weren't using any heating, it's very high - check that you do have an imperial meter (your meter should have ft3 or cubic feet on it). I think more likely though, is that you were using your heating then.

Your electricity averages nearly 20kwh a day which is high. But why? My washing machine used less than 3kwh a week and that's washing for six people, using it every day. Unless your machine has a fault, I would look elsewhere. Dishwashers can use a couple of kwh in use but with washing machines, generally the detergent is the major cost.

Unless you are a large family, you could probably halve your electricity costs. Do you have:

    Electric heating of any kind
    Immersion heater
    Electric shower
    Tumble drier
    Dishwasher
    Plasma TV
    Old computer
    Halogen spotlights

Or anything else that uses a lot of energy?

Op hasnt been online since 2 april just bare that in mind if you reply
  • I am using 20 units of electricity a day and have just had a shock bill - was offered edf eco 20/20 and am thinking this will do me - am currently on fixed rate tarrif which is now higher than the standard charges!
I am paying roughly £86 per month which was calculated by dividing 12 months - this seems massive but edf say it is line with my consumption - must cut down - but where! tumble dryer definitely - everyone leaves lights, 2 laptops, 2 tellys on quite a lot during late afternoon/evening - that could stop - anyone think I am using an excessive amount?

Depends on how you heat water and whether you have electric heating. If you are heating a house and hot water with electricity, 20kwh a day average is good.

We are a family of six with gas CH. A couple of years ago, our income plummeted and I looked for ways to save. Our electricity was averaging over 20kwh a day - 26kwh some days. We now average 13-14kwh a day and pay £43 a month. Main changes:

    - energy saving bulbs and no halogen spotlights
    - tumble drying cut down from couple of hours a day in the winter to a couple of hours a week
    - dishwasher and washing machine use cheapest programmes
    - no computer now, only laptops
    - everything off when not being used
    - we cook by gas now
  • Magentasue that's helpful - thankyou - we gch and water but a power shower to run it no energy saving bulbs think we could follow your example a bit.
