Tanking and replastering

Hi

I am considering buying a property which needs a majority of the walls tanking and replastering.

If i got the damp work company to do the tanking could you get any plasterer in to do the replastering (just wandering as have a friend who is a plasterer so could keep costs down)

Get the company to do the dpc, with a guarantee, insurance backed is best option, then get your mate to do the tanking as well. If you get the plaster off first you will save even more.
I did this with no problems, the insurance backed guarantee specified how the walls should be treated to maintain the guarantee.
  • Any plasterer should be able to do the job.
If you have a specialist firm in to do the work they might insist on doing the plastering themselves if they provide you with a guarantee.

i have just been looking up about damp proofing and the house i am considering is victorian ans apparently all old houses will register some sort of damp but doesn't necessary need any owrk doing. Only one wall in the kitchen smells of damp and has mould on the wall, the others look just like normal walls in a flat that hasn't been lived in for 6 months.
