I have a bag of rice flour someone has given to me. What can I do with it ? Can I use it as I would 'normal' flour ?

Rice flour is gluten free, so good for people with intolerance ;) As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread to give you more ideas.

I bought a bag of rice flour for a specific recipe and now have lots left.

What can I use it for? Can I use it as a regular flour substitute?

I know you lovely peeps will know!

    Hi Caroline,

There was a thread on rice flour yesterday that should help so I'll add your post to it to keep the suggestions together.

Definitely shortbread biscuits they are gorgeous when a bit of rice flour is used.

You can thicken sauces with it too, it's alot finer and doesn't go lumpy.

    Happy moneysaving all.

I was gifted half a bag of rice flour a few months ago which I put in my freezer as it was a bit past its BBF date and had been opened. I had to take it out of my freezer tonight to make room for something else I need to keep in stock more than the rice flour. Don't want to waste it though so has anyone any ideas or recipes for it please?

  • You can make shortbread with rice flour, gives it a crunchier texture.
  • I use a little bit in shortbread, only about 1oz or it makes it too 'gritty'. Other than that I use it to thicken without adding taste to falafel mix or vegetable bahji/pakora type things.
