Car Insurance - how long does NHB last?

Can anyone tell me how long NCB lasts? I had over 10 years, although I know some insurers cap it at about 6 years. I haven't had insurance since about February 2006 as I haven't had a car since then as I started commuting to work and had no need for a car. Would my NCB still be valid if I got a new car and new insurance?

Thanks.

It normally expires after 2 years although some companies accept it for up to years after the policy lapsed / was cancelled. So unfortunately yours has expired

There is a very very small chance that if you contact the last Insurer you were with that they might allow it.

Some companies work up to 3 years, but very few, worth calling a broker or two and asking them

    Thanks for the reply.

So I would have lost all 10 years or would they just deduct the last three years that I haven't owned my own car? I am a named driver on my bf's policy but I guess that doesn't give me any NCB.

Noticed that the 3 years will have expired (damn 2009).

Worth trying your previous company and seeing what they can do for you

Thanks for all the replies. I just found my old policy and it expired 3 years and 3 weeks ago. Typical!

Never mind, I am three years older so I suppose that my have some influence on the price.
